Îlot Charlevoix

Learn to Camp and Folk Festival

At the heart of Montréal’s renewal!

Located on the corner of St. Patrick and Charlevoix streets, Îlot Charlevoix is a landscaped green space, a pivotal point of the Lachine Canal, where users of the path and the Métro readily converge. The Atwater Market and nearby converted buildings recall the neighbourhood’s industrial past.

A bit of history

The Charlevoix Bridge brings back childhood memories for people from the neighbourhood. When ships had to pass, the bridge operator would turn the bridge sideways. Little did the operator know that children would hang on to the bridge for a fun ride.

A bit of history

The Peel Basin was formerly a key transhipment point. The transatlantic ships were unloaded along the docks and the merchandise loaded onto lakers to continue their route to the interior.

Tucked away under the Turcot Interchange, with the pedestrian bridge as its focal point and its location along the banks of the canal, this alternative framework has given a new definition to the urban event.

A bit of history

The Côte-Saint-Paul pivoting bridge, built in 1904 by Dominion Bridge, bears the historic green apple colour. Its design reflects the presence of maritime traffic along the canal.
