Canadian Jewish Heritage Month

Dear colleagues,

In May, we mark Canadian Jewish Heritage Month. Since its official designation in 2018, this month has been a time to deepen our understanding of Jewish heritage and culture. It is a special time to honour the remarkable and multifaceted contributions that the Jewish community has made, and continues to make, to the rich tapestry of Canada’s diversity, and to its prosperity.

Canada’s Jewish community is the fourth-largest Jewish diaspora in the world, with roots spanning many regions and cultures. From groundbreaking achievements in the arts and sciences, to significant leadership in business, law, and social justice, the impact of Jewish Canadians is woven into the very fabric of the country. Their resilience, innovation, and commitment to community have enriched our society in countless ways. Parks Canada, through its mandate, protects and presents nationally significant examples of Canada’s natural and cultural heritage. This includes a number of Jewish Heritage Designations.

As we celebrate Canadian Jewish Heritage Month, let us take a moment to learn, reflect, and strengthen our commitment to unity, respect, and understanding. We encourage all team members to visit the dedicated ParksNet page for further information on upcoming events and other resources and engage in learning opportunities throughout the month, whether through discussion, reading, or personal reflection. By doing so, we honour the past and help build a future where every community feels seen and supported.

Sincerely, and Shalom (peace),
