Frequently Asked Questions
Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site
What is the site’s capacity for conferences?
For conferences in the Multi-Purpose Room, a limit of 75 is recommended for table seating during presentations/seminars. The space can hold up to 135 with theatre-style seating.
The Theatre can hold 135, with additional spots for up to five wheelchairs. Outdoor conferences are available, but Parks Canada does not provide tent rentals.
Can we add tours or other programs?
Absolutely! We can provide site tours and heritage programs, depending on the time of year of your conference. If you would like to discuss à la carte options, let your Parks Canada contact know what kind of program you are looking for, and we will do our best to create a program or tour that meets your needs.
Can we use the historic buildings?
Historic buildings are available for programming from early April to Victoria Day, then Labour Day to early November. Depending on the time of year and the needs of your group, certain buildings may not be available. Only some historic buildings are heated. Generally, spaces in historic buildings are smaller and may be better suited for small groups or breakout sessions.
Do you provide WiFi?
At this time, Parks Canada is not able to provide WiFi for conferences. We can provide a cellular data connection for up to 4 devices, which can be used by presenters. Conference attendees will not have access to WiFi.
Can you contract third-party presenters for our group?
Parks Canada is not able to contract third-party presenters on behalf of your group. We may be able to provide contact information for local or relevant presenters that you may contract for your event.
Does Parks Canada provide catering?
No, catering, dishes and linens are not provided by Parks Canada. You are welcome to self-cater your event, or work with our on-site restaurant for catering or restaurant service. For self-catering, there is a kitchenette off the Multi-Purpose Room with a fridge and freezer.
Is there parking or transportation?
Lower Fort Garry has ample parking for visitors, including space for buses, at no additional charge. Parks Canada is not able to provide transportation to or from Lower Fort Garry.
Weather permitting, we do have an electric shuttle to transport up to 10 guests at a time from the Visitor Reception Centre to the historic grounds.
How much does it cost to host a conference at the historic site?
The cost of your conference will be determined by various factors, such as the time of year, number of attendees, length of the conference, spaces required, added tours and programs, and planning support required. When you have completed a venue information request, Parks Canada may be able to provide an initial quote, but a planning meeting is often required to confirm additional details of the conference before we can draft a comprehensive quote.
