This map shows the administrative boundaries of York Redoubt National Historic Site in the context of adjacent roadways and properties. The site encompasses two parcels, one east of Purcell’s Cove Road adjacent to the Halifax Harbour, containing the majority of site features, and the other to the west.

The small inset map shows the location of national historic sites in Halifax including: York Redoubt, Prince of Wales Tower, Halifax Citadel, Georges Island, and Fort McNab National Historic Sites.

York Redoubt National Historic Site is located across Halifax Harbour from Fort McNab and 12 km from Halifax Citadel National Historic Site.

Fortification

York Redoubt National Historic Site is a fortification that sits high on a bluff overlooking the entrance to Halifax Harbour in the community of Ferguson's Cove, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Most of the buildings and structures are located inside the fort walls and close to the parking lot.

During the summer months, visitors can access trails by leaving the fortification through a Sally Port (6). The Sally Port is closed during the shoulder season and the winter season.

Trails

There are several trails through the site, including two trails that lead to Spion Korp (17) and the York Shore Battery (8).

Changes in elevation

Trails meander through the fortification and the surrounding grounds from an elevation of 65 meters above sea level to sea level. Visitors who explore the site's trails should be prepared for steep terrain and changes in elevation.

Terrain

Trails have a variety of surfaces including: crushed stone, asphalt, and grass. Some sections of the trails include steps made of wood, stone, or brick.
