Chambly Canal National Historic Site

Parks Canada invests more than $50 million over five years in the Chambly Canal National Historic Site. This major investment will make it possible to upgrade numerous structural elements of the waterway, improve the user experience for the 200,000-plus people who visit the site each year, and protect this exceptional heritage site for current and future generations to enjoy.

In addition to this major work, other external site projects will affect the infrastructure of the Chambly Canal as well as its users. On this page, you will find information related to the work that has an impact on users of the path and the banks

Ongoing work

Bridge 4

Bridge 4, which spans the Chambly Canal along Montée du pont 4 Street, will remain in the open position during the following periods, from May 15 to October 12, 2026:

  • 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

Please note that during the peak season, from June 25 to August 23, the bridge will remain in the open position and will therefore be inaccessible to pedestrians and motorists from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.

Inspections have revealed premature wear on the structure, which is believed to be caused, among other things, by excessive weight generated by too frequent vehicle traffic on the bridge. It is therefore important to limit the number of times the bridge is opened and closed to prevent further damage to the bridge structure. Based on this information, the bridge will remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for all the 2026 season.

A detour of a few kilometers will be planned via Bridge 7 (along Chemin Sainte-Thérèse or Route 223) or via the Chemin du Canal. Signage will be in place to indicate when the bridge is not accessible.
