Work content
A segment of the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site located near des Remparts Street is currently undergoing major restoration work. The components of the wall have reached the end of their service life, and work is required to ensure the long-term preservation of the structure. The objective of this project is to fully restore the walls, stabilize the bedrock foundations, and install drainage systems.
The work began in spring 2025 and will extend over two years. To ensure optimal project delivery while maintaining vehicle circulation, the construction site is divided into two distinct phases. This approach aims to free up space as quickly as possible while respecting the technical constraints of the site.

First phase (2025-26)
The first phase of the work was initially scheduled from early June 2025 to December 2025, but is extending through winter 2025–26 due to various factors encountered during construction. This phase is now completed.
The interventions for this phase focus on the section located between Hébert Street and de la Ménagerie Street, identified in red in the image below.
Second phase (2026-27)
The second phase will run from April to fall 2026, in the section shown in blue in the image below. No street closures are planned. However, temporary closures may occur on a punctual basis to allow for targeted interventions.
Parks Canada thanks all residents, businesses, and users of the area for their patience and cooperation during this work, which is essential for the maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of the Fortifications of Québec National Historic Site. This site is central to Old Québec’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
Parks Canada continues to make every effort to minimize the impacts of the construction work and preserve the quality of the surrounding living environment
