Lévis Forts National Historic Site
Immerse yourself in the second half of the 19th century when the Americans threatened to attack Quebec City and its port facilities. What would happen if the enemy bombarded the city and gained control of navigation on the St. Lawrence River? It could seriously threaten the arrival of reinforcements or force the withdrawal of British troops...
It was to counter a possible land attack via the South Shore of the St. Lawrence River that the Lévis Forts were built. The last British fortification constructed on Canadian soil, these buildings bear witness to the ingenious innovations of the time. Visit Fort No. 1 for an overview of the remarkable technologies deployed. Walk through the vaulted tunnels, the underground firing range, the powder magazine and the casemates designed to house the soldiers. And be sure to enjoy the magnificent panorama!
