Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site

Summer restricted activity order (April 15 - October 31)

Issued: April 30, 2026

Pursuant to Section 12(1) of the National Historic Parks General Regulations, the following activities are restricted within the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site between April 15 and October 31, and may only be carried out with a permit issued by the Superintendent:

  1. Possession of metal detectors;
  2. Use of bicycles (except in the Log Cabin Parking Lot);
  3. Use of motorized vehicles (except automobiles in the Log Cabin Parking Lot);
  4. All overnight travel and camping*;
  5. Special Events, Commercial Filming, Research, Business Activities, and Guiding (including activities conducted by non-profit organizations, custodial groups, and charities)**; and
  6. All day use, with the exception of the Log Cabin Parking Lot and the Bennett area (as indicated on the attached map)*.

*Camping and day-use permits are free of charge from April 15-May 31 and from September 14-October 31. There is a fee for camping and day use permits from June 1-September 13.

**Please contact Parks Canada for camping permits, day use permits, special event permits, filming permits, research permits, custodial permits, and business and guiding licenses.

Provisions of Yukon First Nation Final Agreements, court decisions, and other aboriginal rights, as reached through an agreement with Canada, may take precedence over any restrictions/prohibitions made under these Regulations.
