What

Pursuant to subsection 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following area is closed to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent:

Where

The following wildfire impacted areas remain closed, as delineated on the attached maps:

Maligne Canyon: Access to Maligne Canyon trails and surrounding land is prohibited from First Bridge parking lot to the Fifth Bridge junction. Adjacent areas within the wildfire perimeter, such as the rock gardens climbing area, the Old Man scramble and two valley canyon remain closed.

Highway 93A corridor: Vehicle access to Highway 93A, Whistlers Road and Marmot Road remains closed. The area south of Highway 16 and west of the Icefields Parkway remains closed to frontcountry and backcountry use. This closure extends south to the Fryatt Trail (trail 120), with the exception of day use areas and roadside facilities on the Icefields Parkway.

Skyline Trail area: The area east of the Icefields Parkway and south of Maligne Road, including the Skyline (trail 100), remains closed to frontcountry and backcountry use. This closure extends south to Goats and Glaciers viewpoint. The Skyline access trails signal fire road (trail 100, 7i) curator (trail 101) and watchtower (trail 102) are also closed to all use.

The Palisades Centre: access to the Palisades Centre is prohibited.

Frontcountry Campgrounds: all frontcountry campgrounds remain closed.

Why

To ensure public safety in wildfire impacted areas.

Penalty

Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
