Information Bulletin - Prescribed Fire Completed: Seech‑Hopper and Jackfish Creek (Lake Audy area) Riding Mountain National Park

Issued: June 02, 2026

Parks Canada completed approximately 1700 hectares of prescribed fire work in Riding Mountain National Park during the week of April 17, 2026.

The safety of people, infrastructure, and neighbouring lands is Parks Canada’s top priority. Area closures have been lifted in most locations, with the remaining areas expected to reopen once fire specialists confirm they are safe.

The prescribed fire in the Lake Audy area is intended to improve forage for bison, elk, deer, and other grazing wildlife, to maintain and restore prairie grasslands, and reduce the risk of a high-intensity wildfire in Riding Mountain National Park.

Parks Canada’s National Fire Management Program is a made up of professional, highly trained wildland fire management specialists who are dedicated to public safety and the stewardship of Parks Canada-administered places.

For up-to-date information about area or facility closures and other updates on the prescribed fire, please check the park’s website at https://parks.canada.ca/pn-np/mb/riding and Facebook page at facebook.com/RidingNP
