- Notice of prohibition: Management of noise, food and garbage in the public campgrounds
- Notice of management and control of public campgrounds: Establishment of quiet hours and inspection in public campgrounds
Alcohol and smoking
- Alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and e-cigarette (vape) consumption is permitted only at your individual campsite and provided that you are of legal age
- Public intoxication is not allowed
- Other than at your campsite, the consumption by any means of alcohol, tobacco and/or cannabis, as well as the use of e-cigarettes (vapes), is prohibited in Jeremy's Bay Campground, including at Meadow, Kedge and Slapfoot Beaches, and at playgrounds, picnic shelters and guided experience locations
Campsites
- Camping is allowed in designated campsites only
- Camping (including sleeping in a vehicle) is not allowed in roadside pullouts, trailheads or day-use areas
- Campsite permit holders must be at least 18 years old; the permit holder is responsible for the site, including cleanliness, noise levels and the actions of visitors
- Each campsite is limited to 4 people (must include at least one adult) or 1 family unit (adult(s) and dependents) per campsite
- Each campsite is limited to 1 trailer and 1 sleeping tent OR 2 sleeping tents
- To protect the forest floor, keep all camping equipment and vehicles on gravel areas within the site
- Do not park on the road; additional parking is available at P1 and P2
- Maximum length of stay: 21 nights
- Exterior sinks are available at service buildings for dishwashing and grey water disposal; please clean up after use
- Use recycling, compost and waste containers at waste-sorting stations
- Use roadways and pathways to access your campsite and campground facilities (bathrooms, playgrounds, etc.); cutting through a neighbouring campsite or the forest can disturb other campers and harm plants
Campground hours
- Check-in time is 2 pm for campsites and 3 pm for roofed accommodations
- Check-out time is 11 am
- Early arrivals: visitors who arrive at the campground before check-in time may enjoy the rest of Kejimkujik while waiting for their campsite to become vacant (a valid entry pass is required)
- After-hours: visitors who arrive at the campground after the kiosk has closed may proceed to their reserved campsite and register before 11 am the next day at the Visitor Centre, in person or by telephone: 902-682-2772
- Generators may be used from 9 am to 11 am and from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm
- Quiet hours are from 11 pm to 7 am; only campers registered to a site are to be at that site after 11 pm
- Be considerate of your neighbours and always maintain appropriate noise levels, including outside of quiet hours
Campfires
- Only firewood purchased in Kejimkujik is permitted (exceptions include kiln-dried packaged firewood or compressed wood bricks)
- A firewood permit is required to burn or possess firewood; permits are available at the Campground Kiosk when purchasing firewood or by presenting approved exceptions
- Fires are permitted only in designated fire boxes
- Never leave your fire unattended
- Ensure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving your campsite or going to bed; forest fires can start quickly
- Burning conditions can change rapidly; check signage at campground entrance or speak with Kejimkujik staff for up-to-date fire-restriction information
- Propane fire pits are permitted during fire restrictions; they resemble wood fires but do not produce smoke and can be extinguished quickly
- Propane fire pits may be used only on a registered campsite
- Collecting wood or deadfall from the forest is prohibited
Driving
- Vehicles staying overnight must be registered to a campsite
- Did you know? Provincial Motor Vehicle legislation applies and is enforced in Kejimkujik
- Riding without a seatbelt is illegal and unsafe, as is transporting or riding as a passenger in the bed of a truck
- Speeding on any park road and failure to stop at the Entrance Kiosk pose serious safety hazards and are against the law
- For your safety and the safety of others, obey speed limits and posted one-way signage
- Cycling is permitted only on designated trails and roads. Helmets are required by law in Nova Scotia for all cyclists
Fishing
- A Kejimkujik National Park Fishing license is required for fishing
- More details about licenses and regulations
Food and garbage
- Raccoons, bears and other animals are attracted to food, food waste and pet excrements
- Never feed wild animals
- Feeding wild animals is illegal, can spread illness, may lead to aggressive behaviour and can cause wildlife to lose natural foraging and hunting abilities
- To avoid attracting wildlife, store all unattended food or scented items (including coolers) in your vehicle; never store food in your tent
- For your safety and the safety of wildlife in Kejimkujik, Parks Canada staff may seize unattended animal attractants
- Do not burn garbage
- Proper waste sorting will assist in recycling efforts, keep nuisance animals away and leave your site in good shape for the campers who follow you
- Nova Scotia law requires waste to be sorted before disposal; sorting stations are located throughout Kejimkujik
- All backcountry campsites have "Pack in, pack out" rules – all garbage (food wrappers, beverage containers, etc.) brought into the site must be carried out
Pets
- Pets must always be on a leash and never left unattended
- Pets are not permitted on Meadow Beach, Slapfoot Beach or Kedge Beach
- Pet owners are invited to use the designated pet-friendly section of Merrymakedge Beach
- Pet food and waste attract wildlife; for everyone’s safety, clean up after your pets
- Disposal bags and stations can be found at Merrymakedge Beach and the Visitor Centre
- Keep pets on gravel area of the campsite
