Campground Hub interpretation programming 

Programming runs on a two-week schedule.  Each program offers hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Children under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Bark PAWS Patrol 

Head to the Campground Hub with your four-legged friend and join a park interpreter for a fun, practical session on hiking responsibly with your dog in the park. Help protect rare wildlife while keeping you and your dog safe with the simple PAWS rules: plan ahead, always on a 3m leash, always on trail, welcome others, and scoop the poop!  Plus perks that pups will love including a free waste bag, tasty treat, and the option to strike a pose for an adorable “graduation” photo!

Don’t Move a Mussel 

Stop by this interactive station at the Campground Hub to discover how you can help protect the waters from invasive species. Learn how these unwelcome hitchhikers spread, the impact they have on fragile ecosystems, and the simple steps you can take to prevent them - like cleaning, draining, and drying your boat. It’s a hands-on, eye-opening experience that empowers you to keep lakes healthy for generations to come!

Saukiing Anishnaabekiing, more than a place name

This place has been home to the Anishnaabek, also known as Saugeen Ojibway Nation, for more than 10,000 years and not as a location, but as kin. Join us to learn part of the story of an unbroken relationship between land and people, and why presence, continuity, and recognition matter. This is biskaabiiyang, a return to self.

Whippoorwill Watch 

Join a park interpreter for an exploration of the mysterious eastern whip-poor-will, an endangered nightjar found in the forests of Bruce Peninsula National Park. Discover its hauntingly unique nighttime call, learn about its remarkable camouflage that makes it nearly invisible on the forest floor, and understand why this bird species is in decline. We’ll also explore how simple actions like staying on trail and keeping dogs on leash can help protect this incredible bird so future generations can continue to experience its nighttime song.

Believe in Beaver Behaviour 

Discover why beavers are one of nature’s most powerful engineers in the park. Learn how this keystone species builds and shapes wetland ecosystems, creating habitat for countless other plants and animals and boosting biodiversity. Explore how beaver activity helps sustain clean, life-giving water for wildlife and people alike and why protecting beavers is essential to protecting the future of healthy watersheds for generations to come. 

Protecting Turtle Hatchlings

Discover the remarkable turtles that live in the park, species at risk that depend on healthy wetlands to survive. Learn about the challenges they face and how the park is working to protect them through monitoring, habitat restoration, and community action. Get a close-up look at nest protection efforts, including nest boxes and other conservation tools that help give hatchlings a safer start in life. 

Play, Learn, Protect: Family Nature Games

Head to the Campground Hub for a fun, hands-on way to discover the rare and at-risk plants and animals who live in the park. Through interactive, family-friendly games for all ages, learn how these species live, why they’re important, and what threatens their survival. You’ll also learn simple, meaningful actions you can take to help protect them both during your visit and after you leave the park. It’s learning through play, connection, and discovery for the whole family!

Art in the park: Campground Hub Studio

Join a park interpreter at the Campground Hub to be inspired by the rare plants and animals who live in the park and let your creativity flow. Through colouring, postcard creation, painting, journalling, and poetry, explore different ways to connect with the natural world and share what you discover. This welcoming, all-ages art space invites you to slow down, observe closely, and express your experience of nature in your own unique way.

Rattle & Roll: Meet a Massasauga Rattlesnake

Meet one of the most remarkable and misunderstood species in the park, the Massasauga rattlesnake, an ancient survivor and species at risk. Learn how to identify this unique snake, understand its role in the ecosystem, and discover the fascinating adaptations that allow it to thrive in this special landscape. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to view a live Massasauga and gain a deeper appreciation for why protecting its habitat is essential for its survival, and ours. 

Bear Aware

Get Bear Wise with this essential camper session in Bruce Peninsula National Park, home to the unique and at-risk Saugeen Peninsula black bear. Discover how incredible a bear’s sense of smell really is, and why even the smallest of food traces attract wildlife into campsites. Learn simple, effective ways to keep both people and bears safe, like storing anything that smells (food, toiletries, even toothpaste) securely in your vehicle. A must-know session for all campers to help ensure safe visits for people and wildlife alike.

Fire Smart: How to Build a Campfire 

Bring your camp chair and settle in for a hands-on session at the Campground Hub, where you’ll learn the essentials of building and safely lighting a campfire for cooking, warmth, and connection. Discover proper fire setup, safety practices, and responsible use in a protected natural environment. You’ll also explore how invasive species are impacting the largest remaining forest in southern Ontario, and why careful firewood choices are critical to keeping these ecosystems healthy. A practical, engaging experience for every camper. 

Campfire Social

Bring your camp chair and bug spray and join a park interpreter for a warm, welcoming evening in Bruce Peninsula National Park. Gather around the fire for classic campfire games, storytelling or songs under the open sky. This relaxed, family-friendly social is the perfect way to connect with others, share laughter, and experience the timeless tradition of campfire evenings in the park. 

Bat Detectives 

Join a park interpreter at the Campground Hub to uncover the secret lives of bats after dark. Learn about the bat species that call the park home, and why their populations have declined by over 90% due to threats like disease and habitat loss. Discover how these incredible night-flyers support healthy ecosystems and what you can do to help protect them. Then, step into the night and listen for bats using ultrasonic detection equipment for a rare glimpse into their hidden world.

Moth Night: Wings of Biodiversity

Step into the park at nighttime and discover the surprising diversity of moths that live here. Often overlooked, these nocturnal insects play a vital role in pollination and food webs, supporting countless other species. Learn how moths are studied and why they are such important indicators of biodiversity, then take a closer look at the incredible shapes, patterns, and colours that emerge when the lights go on after dark. 

Dark Sky Discovery 

Step into the wonder of the night sky in Bruce Peninsula National Park, a designated Dark Sky Preserve. Explore celestial objects, constellations, and the breathtaking Milky Way while learning how to use a telescope capable of capturing deep-space images. Discover why the dark sky is a vital and disappearing ecosystem, and what you can do to help protect it from light pollution. Look up and connect with the same stars that have inspired people for thousands of years in this truly unforgettable stargazing experience.

Ask a Park Interpreter

Stop by our drop-in station at the Head of Trails at Cyprus Lake for a friendly, informal chat with a park interpreter. Each day brings something new, topics may include wildlife, plants, safety, conservation, dark skies, and more so there’s always something to discover. Whether you have questions, want to learn something new, or are curious about what you’re seeing on the trail, this is your chance to connect, explore, and deepen your experience of the park.

No Campfire, No Problem! 

Fire ban? No worries! Join a Park Interpreter at the Campground Hub to get hands-on with different camping stoves. Find out what fuels they use, how to choose the right one for your adventure, and how to operate them safely. You'll also learn wildfire prevention tips and how to stay prepared when campfires aren't an option. Stay safe, cook great meals, and enjoy the outdoors responsibly!

Protecting beavers means protecting the future supply and quality of life sustaining water.  Use this self-guided activity to find signs of Beaver activity and discover their role in creating wetland habitat for many other plants and animals.

Echos in the Night: Bat Journal

Bats are essential for healthy ecosystems. They control insect populations and help pollinate plants and spread seeds.  Despite their importance, bats are often misunderstood and threatened by disease, habitat loss and climate change. Learning about them helps us protect them. Find a quiet spot and try the bat journalling prompts to discover more about their world.

Late Night Chatter

Step into the sounds of the night. Use this self-guided activity to listen for birds and wildlife, and explore how animals rely on sound to find food, communicate, and stay safe.

Bird Bingo

Spot, check and win! Use our simple bingo sheet to find birds around the park and in the Visitor Centre. A fun and easy way for everyone to discover who’s visiting the park this summer.

Gather Knowledge (Visitor Centre)

Take a journey through the Visitor Gallery and find 12 items that reflect Indigenous knowledge and culture.  This self-guided activity invites you to learn about the Anishnaabek and their enduring connection to this place.

Colouring Pages

Take a moment to relax and enjoy art that connects you to the park and the wildlife who live here. There are colouring sheets for youngsters featuring a variety of animals, while adults can enjoy detailed wildlife scenes inspired by nature.

Geocaching  (Campground Hub)

Put your navigation skills to the test as you geocache around Cyprus Lake. Collect a kit from the Campground Hub and explore the landscape while learning about local plants and wildlife.

Visit the Campground Hub to check out Camp Ohh No! Scan the campsite scene and challenge yourself to spot Leave No Trace mistakes. Can you find them all? What would you fix to make it a safe, responsible camp?

Step into the darkness and look up! This self-serve activity invites you to explore the Dark Sky Preserve to find celestial objects and learn about the indigenous calendar from grandmother moon. Visit the Visitor Centre to experience an astrophotography exhibit that reveals the beauty of the night sky.

Indigenous peoples have long seen shapes in the night sky that share teachings and reflect the natural world. Connect the stars to create your own constellation,  give it a name and imagine its story, what will yours show?

Orchid Observer

See orchids through a botanist's eyes! Observe their colours, shapes, and patterns, create nature-inspired art and poetry, and discover the remarkable survival story of these rare plants. Gain a deeper appreciation for their delicate beauty and learn how you can help protect orchids and their habitat for future generations.

Hey kids!

Get an adult to bring you to the Visitor Centre or Cyprus Lake Campground Office to ask a staff member for an Xplorer Booklet. When you’re done exploring, remember to bring your booklet back to claim your reward!

Make the most of your interpretive experience:

  • Show up on time to avoid missing out
  • Have proper footwear and water
  • Kids must be accompanied by an adult at all times
  • Bug spray is recommended for the evening programs
