Boundary Road Site Restoration

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

Parks Canada would like to provide an update on construction activities at the former Boundary Road Bridge crossing on the Talbot River, near Bolsover, Ontario.

Construction activities commenced in December 2025 and are progressing as planned. The project remains on schedule and is anticipated to be completed by July 2026.

In response to community feedback, the site is being restored using a naturalization approach. This includes the planting of native tree species, as well as pollinator-friendly grasses and flowering plants, in place of the former roadway and associated infrastructure.

Work to date has focused on the demolition and removal of the remaining in-water components of the bridge, including bridge piers and abutments. Shorelines have been restored and enhanced with additional erosion protection measures. These works have been completed.

As of March 13, 2026, construction activities have temporarily paused to accommodate seasonal conditions, including the spring half-load restrictions on roadways. Following this temporary shutdown, construction will resume with roadway work, which is expected to begin in mid-April and take approximately four to six weeks to complete. Work will start on the south side of the river before progressing to the north side, followed by final landscaping and planting.

While full roadway closures are not anticipated, minor traffic delays may occur during this phase of work. Parks Canada will provide additional details regarding timing and potential impacts to traffic as the construction schedule is finalized.

Parks Canada remains committed to keeping the community informed as the project progresses and will continue to share updates as new information becomes available.
