The artwork Turbulence Rolling by Bill Vazan

Saint-Ours Canal National Historic Site

In the heart of the Saint-Ours Canal National Historic Site, on Darvard Island, discover Turbulence Rolling, a work by Canadian sculptor Bill Vazan.

Made of pink granite and sculpted with sandblasting, this impressive sculpture evokes the movement of water eddies, directly echoing the dynamics of the canal and its natural environment.

A reddish stone sculpture carved with spiral patterns and flowing, winding lines stands on a circular bed of gravel in the middle of a lush green lawn surrounded by trees.

Installed on a mound of stones between the lock and the superintendent's house, the work invites a contemplative pause and a sensitive connection with the landscape.

Created in 2001, it is part of a local art trail (French only) that brings together several artworks in Saint-Ours, developed in partnership with the Musée des beaux-arts de Mont-Saint-Hilaire (French only). This trail helps enrich the visitor experience and fosters a dialogue between art, history, and the surrounding landscape.
