Youth learning the art of finger weaving.

Learn about Métis culture through the traditional art of finger weaving! Intertwine the history of Fort Walsh and Metis culture as a local interpreter tells stories and teaches you the artform.

Little Ones, Big Stories: A cradle board magnet workshop

Craft an amazing keepsake during your time at Fort Walsh, by joining an Indigenous artisan in the creation of a cradle board magnet. Participants will be given all necessary tools to craft the miniature cradle board, while learning about Indigenous traditions and culture through the medium of storytelling.

Each participant will leave with a handmade magnet to cherish or gift.

Medicine Walk

Enjoy a leisurely walk along the Battle Creek and Métis Trails to identify local plants from an Indigenous perspective. Learn how plants of the Cypress Hills are used for food and medicine by Métis communities, with stories from a Métis interpreter.

Thunder in the Hills: A guided hike

Join an interpreter and hit the trail for a one-way guided hike along the Battle Creek! Explore the unique nature and wildlife of the Cypress Hills, traditionally known as the Thunder Breeding Hills or la Montagne de Cyprès.

Indigenous Culture Camps

Indigenous Knowledge Keepers from Carry the Kettle First Nation will share traditions and perspectives on the history of Fort Walsh and the Cypress Hills Massacre. Enjoy storytelling, games, and learn about longstanding First Nations presence of the Cypress Hills.
