Program Schedule

Sitting on the banks of the Yukon River, the majestic SS Klondike National Historic Site is the perfect place to spend a few hours. Take a guided tour of the grounds with an interpretive guide, stroll through the interpretive panels at your own pace or join us in the theatre for film viewings several times daily. Knowledgeable and friendly Parks Canada staff at the Visitor Welcome Centre are ready to help you plan your visit.

The S.S. Klondike is closed for the season. Guided tours will be back again in 2023!

Guided Tours

The Highways of Yesterday

All aboard the mighty S.S Klondike! Before there were highways, riverboats connected the Yukon to the rest of the world. Experience what life was like during the riverboat era, why the Klondike was built so big, and how people depended on riverboats before highways meandered through the Yukon. Your guided tour will include a stop on the vessel’s bow for a scenic view of the river as well as the sensation of river travel on the boat known as the queen of Yukon sternwheelers.

Tickets available at the Visitor Welcome Centre
Time: 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 2:00 pm (French), 3:00pm (30 minutes)

Theatre Schedule

In the Days of the Riverboats

Enjoy the 18-minute National Film Board of Canada documentary about the days when sternwheelers plied the mighty Yukon and other rivers in the territory.
Time: Daily beginning every half hour between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm (with the exception of 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm)

Escape to the Chilkoot

Take in a film about the fabled Chilkoot Trail, or immerse yourself in guided program featuring iconic characters of the Gold Rush era. For hikers embarking on the Chilkoot Trail, join us for your mandatory Trail Orientation video before setting out on your journey.

Time: Daily from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

At your leisure

Enjoy all the S.S Klondike grounds have to offer at your leisure, on your schedule, and without entry fee! Learn about the S.S. Klondike’s colourful history from the series of new interpretive panels around the site. Drop in to the Visitor Welcome Centre and meet knowledgeable staff or peruse the Gift Shop for a memento to take home. Relax in the Red Chairs or play a game of quoits on the lawn, all with the queen of Yukon sternwheelers, the S.S. Klondike, as your backdrop.
