Complete the quiz before you pick up your Daily Winter Permit at Summit Station. If your trip is a week or more away, you should take the Annual Winter Permit quiz instead.

How to apply

  •  Take the 15 minute Daily Winter Permit quiz below and score 100% correct.
  •  Before starting the quiz, you will be required to enter your full legal name. This personal information is required to validate your quiz result, and will not be stored by Parks Canada.
  •  You can complete the quiz in advance at any point during the current winter season.
  •  When you achieve 100%, a screen will display your full name, the current date, and your result. Take a screenshot of this information and present it to Summit Station staff. The name you provide will be recorded on your permit and may be verified against a valid government-issued photo ID.
  •  If you are under 19 years of age, written approval from a legal parent or guardian is required to complete and submit your application.

Terms and conditions for Annual Winter Permits
  • Permits are valid only for those Winter Restricted Areas, and their designated parking locations, which have been posted as open for entry and travel that day and until midnight of that day.
  • Annual Winter Permits are valid from the effective date until May 31, 2026.
  • Permits are not transferable.
  • Entry and travel in the Winter Restricted Areas are inherently risky given the potential for injury to person or property from, among other things, avalanches, artillery from avalanche control, mud slides, water crossings, and wildlife. Permits do not indicate that entry and travel is safe. Permit holders willingly assume and consent to all risks.
  • Permits do not allow access to Canadian Pacific Railway property, and permit holders must follow designated access routes to avoid trespassing on Canadian Pacific property.
  • Permit holders waive any claim against Canada, including Parks Canada, and their employees resulting from the permit holders’ entry and travel in Winter Restricted Areas, Winter Unrestricted Areas, Winter Prohibited Areas, and/or any land or track of Canadian Pacific.
  • Permit holders entering Winter Restricted Areas must be in possession of a Daily or Annual Winter Permit. They must present that permit along with a valid government-issued photo identification to a Park Warden or Peace Officer upon request.
  • Permit holders parked in a designated parking area must prominently display on the dash of the parked vehicle:
    • an Annual Winter Parking Permit with the permit number and licence plate visible for inspection, and
    • a valid National Parks Pass.
  • Permit holders must comply with the Canada National Parks Act and its regulations, as well as all elements of the Winter Permit System. Non-compliance with permit conditions may result in fines up to $25,000 and/or permit suspension or cancellation.
  • Parks Canada excludes any duty of care to the Applicant under the Occupiers Liability Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 337 and the Applicant acknowledges this exclusion.

Privacy statement: Annual Winter Permit

The information you provide is collected under the authority of Section 7 of the General Regulations of the Canada National Parks Act for the purposes of administering the Winter Permit System, including enforcement activities in Glacier National Park. Parks Canada Agency may also use aggregate (anonymous) information for research and statistical purposes.

Participation in the Winter Permit System is voluntary. Refusal to provide personal information will result in the denial of your application for an Annual Winter Permit.

Your personal information is administered in accordance with the Canada National Parks Act and the Privacy Act. You have the right to the protection of, access to, and correction of your personal information, which is described in Personal Information Bank PC PPU 067. Instructions for obtaining this information are outlined in the government publication entitled Info Source.

Info Source may also be accessed on-line at any Service Canada Centre. You have the right to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding the institution’s handling of your personal information.
