Parks Canada Fees Report
Fiscal year 2021–2022

On behalf of Parks Canada, I am pleased to present the Agency’s annual fees report for fiscal year 2021–2022.

Parks Canada protects 450,000 square kilometres of natural and cultural heritage places and welcomes millions of visitors every year to national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across the country. These natural and cultural heritage places make important contributions to the preservation of species and ecosystems, they tell the stories of Canada, and they are also valued destinations for tourism, recreation and wellness for Canadians and guests from around the world.

Offering meaningful experiences and providing effective and efficient services to visitors, businesses and communities are important priorities for Parks Canada. The Agency delivers services and experiences at more than 200 locations found in every region of the country. Parks Canada’s operations are funded by a combination of annual budget appropriations and revenues earned from service fees. Fees from visitor services contribute as much as 25 percent per year to the work of Parks Canada. These revenues are reinvested in operations and are a vital part of the funding for national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas.

Parks Canada strives to ensure that service fees are affordable so that Canada’s national heritage places can be enjoyed by everyone. Fees for entry and admission are maintained at affordable levels while fees for services that bring private benefits for individuals or businesses achieve higher levels of cost recovery. Parks Canada continues to implement regular fee adjustments, based on changes in the Consumer Price Index. The most recent adjustment was on January 1, 2022.

In accordance with the Service Fees Act, this annual report provides a detailed and transparent overview of all of Parks Canada’s administration of service fees from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Each and every day, the Parks Canada team works tirelessly to protect and conserve national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas while welcoming millions of visitors to these treasured places and supporting tourism and communities in every corner of Canada.

Parks Canada provides a wide variety of services to visitors, businesses and the residents of town site communities, and depends significantly on the revenues earned from these services. Service fees revenues are reinvested into Parks Canada operations and make an important contribution to the ongoing provision of high levels of service to Canadians and to the conservation and presentation of one of the world’s greatest networks of protected heritage places.

Parks Canada’s service fees represent excellent value, and the Agency is committed to ensuring they remain affordable for all Canadians. Parks Canada strives to maintain low prices for public benefit services, such as entry and admission, while ensuring that services that bring private benefits to individuals and businesses are priced at levels which provide for greater recovery of costs and better alignment with market prices.

With 224 national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas providing services to millions of people from across the country and around the world, Parks Canada’s service fees touch Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
