Free admission to Parks Canada administered places on Canada Day provides more opportunities for visitors to experience this country’s natural and cultural heritage, including learning more about the histories, cultures, traditions and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

Through living history, music, storytelling, and shared experiences, the past continues to speak to the present.

Emancipation Day

Join a noontime procession to a special cannon firing and participate in a special tour that shares the history of enslavement at the site. -
Race through time

Come “Race Through Time” on August 15, 2026, at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. This race takes you 12 kilometres between two towns that are 304 years apart!
Additional Information:
- Race course will be closed at 7:15pm – must be finished race by this time!
- Spaghetti & meatball meal will be available as runners finish the race.
(Vegetarian and gluten free also available).
- Award ceremony will begin at approx. 7:15 p.m.
- No dogs allowed on site except for registered service animals. -

Sinister Soirée: 19+ event

Time: 05:00 PM - 11:00 PMLocation(s): Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic SiteCost: $60.00You’re invited to the 6th annual Sinister Soirée! Experience the Fortress of Louisbourg after dark during this 19+ Halloween event.
The Sinister Soirée offers a unique evening of history, live music, entertainment, themed tours, tarot readings, costume contests, DJs, dance floors, and pop-up bars. For one night only, explore the fortress from a different perspective in a spooktacular atmosphere.
Bigger than ever, the 2026 edition will welcome up to 600 guests for a memorable evening at one of Atlantic Canada’s most iconic destinations.
Costumes are encouraged, and a variety of drinks and food items will be available for purchase throughout the site. This is a 19+ event – government photo IDs will be required.
Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with events and activities drawing to an end by 11:00 p.m.

Wagon Rides

Free admission for all
Join us for a free afternoon of family fun! Wagon rides, marshmallow roasting, hot chocolate, 18th century games and activities are on the program to create memorable moments to cherish. If there’s snow, bring your toboggan for sledding down the glacis with the majestic King’s Bastion as your backdrop or bring your snowshoes to enjoy the period vistas of the 18th century by foot.
This event is part of the Taste of Winter programming, co-hosted by Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Fortress Louisbourg Association and Parks Canada.
