Treebeard Trail

Two Forests in One
This trail ascends through evergreens to a bench above a creek that trickles through fern and horsetail.

Start in balsam fir then step back in time to a much older white spruce forest that hasn’t burned since 1823. Now toppled giants, they are the legacy of nutrient-rich creeks that tumble out of the Waskesiu Hills.

“Tree beard” or Old Man’s Beard lichen, dangles from branches and continues to the younger forest at the end of the trail.

Length: 1.2 km loop
Time: 45 – 60 minutes

Level of Difficulty: Moderate, some steep sections.

Significant Features: Ascend a steep, winding trail through a white spruce and balsam fir forest. The trees on this trail are some of the oldest in the park.

Trailhead: 17.6km down the Narrows Road.
