2025-03-05 Celebrating International Women Day at Parks Canada

Dear colleagues,

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a global day to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and academic achievements of women and girls. It is a time to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality and the work that remains to ensure full participation for all. This year’s theme within the Government of Canada is “Strength in Every Story”. It resonates deeply with our commitment to sharing diverse voices and experiences, as every woman’s story is a testament to resilience, determination, and opportunity.

Over the past decades, we have witnessed remarkable progress in gender equality and women’s rights in Canada – from efforts to gain pay equity and the many “firsts” for individuals and Canadian women across the country. The Network for Women Employees has compiled a timeline montage of some key moments in Canadian women’s history. As we reflect on these achievements and the recognition of women’s rights, we must also acknowledge that these events are part of recent history, which affected our mothers and grandmothers. Let’s take a moment today to reflect on our future perspectives. What will we look back on and wonder: “How did that take so long to change?”

At Parks Canada, storytelling is at the heart of what we do. Inspired by this year’s theme, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of women whose dedication continues to influence future generations. Visit the ParksNet page to learn more and honour their inspiring contributions.

We also invite you to take part in the Women in Leadership event hosted by the Canada School of Public Service on March 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon (ET). This event will bring together women leaders from across the Government of Canada to share their journeys, insights, and practical tools for fostering success and inclusivity in the workplace.

Together, let’s celebrate, learn, and share as we work toward a more equitable future for all.

Happy International Women’s Day!
