2026-02-02 30 Years of Black History Month

Dear colleagues,

In February, we come together to celebrate Black History Month. This year marks a significant milestone that invites us to reflect on three decades of recognition, learning, and progress. This year’s theme, “30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries”, reminds us that Black History Month is not only a time to reflect on the past, but also an opportunity to address present challenges and commit to a brighter, more inclusive future.

This month, and throughout the year, Parks Canada remains committed to fostering awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the impact of Black community leaders, innovators, artists, and change-makers. We acknowledge both the struggles and the triumphs that have shaped our shared history, as well as the ongoing efforts toward equity and justice. While we celebrate the progress, we also recognize that systemic barriers and inequities continue to exist. Addressing these challenges requires sustained commitment, and we remain dedicated to creating a workplace where every team member feels valued, included, and empowered.

Black History Month Events

Throughout February, a series of events and activities will offer opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection in support of positive change. These include guest speakers, workshops, cultural celebrations, and more. Please visit the dedicated ParksNet page for full details and registration information.

We strongly encourage all team members to participate. These events are not only opportunities to learn and grow, but also a chance to connect, engage, and show solidarity with our Black colleagues and communities.

Together, let’s continue building a workplace and society where equity, inclusion, and opportunity are a reality for all.
