International Day of La Francophonie

Dear colleagues,

March 20 marks the International Day of La Francophonie, celebrated as part of Les Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF), which are currently taking place throughout March. The RVF highlight the richness and diversity of Francophone culture across Canada and invite everyone to discover, experience and help showcase the French language and its many cultural expressions.

The theme of the 2026 edition is “Activate Your Francophonie”. This theme encourages us to put our Francophonie into action by connecting with others, participating in various activities, or creating opportunities to celebrate and promote the French language and culture in our communities. Through cultural events, workshops, outdoor activities and gatherings, each action highlights the vitality and unifying strength of the French language.

We encourage you to take part in the many activities and make the most of the resources available as part of RVF 2026. On the Parks Canada RVF intranet page, you can submit your favorite songs for our Francophone music playlist, learn more about the RVF launch event, and discover Francophone comedians.

The RVF website lists a variety of activities, including:

  • Free films from the National Film Board of Canada that celebrate Francophone creativity.
  • A game themed  “Comme on dit par chez nous”  (translated : As we say back home), allowing you to test your knowledge and explore the richness of the French language across its many expressions and regional variations.
  • Cultural programming  featuring Francophone artists and creators from across Canada.

We hope you will take this opportunity to learn something new and discover Francophone artists and creators. Most importantly, we wish you a wonderful International Day of La Francophonie! This is an opportunity to celebrate the many voices and traditions that shape Canada’s Francophonie, on this day, throughout the month, or year-round!

Happy International Day of Francophonie!
