International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Dear colleagues,

March 21 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination – a global call to action against racism, discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerances.

While we have taken important steps toward inclusivity, racial discrimination continues to impact people in many ways. At Parks Canada, we recognize that our strength comes from the diversity of people who contribute their perspectives and experiences to our work. We have a responsibility to ensure that our organization reflects the values of fairness, respect, and equity that Canadians expect from us. These values are reinforced in Parks Canada’s Values and Ethics Code, which calls on all of us to advance equity, diversity and inclusion in meaningful ways. This includes recognizing the experiences of colleagues and communities who face systemic barriers and working together to address those barriers.

I encourage everyone to reflect on how we can challenge discrimination, support one another, and foster an environment where differences are respected and valued. This reflection is a vital part of our ongoing efforts to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion so that everyone feels safe and valued at work. If you or someone you know is affected by discrimination, harassment, violence, or workplace conflict, please remember that support services are available:

Thank you for the care and commitment you bring to creating a respectful workplace and for championing equity, diversity and inclusion across Parks Canada.
